Instead of doing a show or presentation during New York Fashion Week, designer Reem Acra chose to produce a three-minute short film titled “Do You Love Me?,” which expertly shows off the vampy mood of her Fall 2010 collection.
The clip opens with a dark-lipped model in an evening gown and feathered vest lying on a spinning wooden platform in a barren room, while giving the camera serious bedroom eyes.
Then the same model — with fuzzy electrocuted hair — pops up several times around the raw space wearing different looks from the new collection, which Acra describes as “Wednesday Addams having a playdate with Eloise.”
The romantic autumnal looks — which can be seen on ReemAcra.com — include creatively draped, slightly oversized, off-the-shoulder dresses featuring rich embroidery, enlarged floral prints and thousands of sequins, all in a rich palette of black, navy, burgundy, mustard, iridescent olive green, silver and gold.
The film ends with the model, donning a scarlet pout, hooked up to a polygraph machine to see if she’s telling the truth to the age-old question “Do you love me?” which flashes on the screen sporadically throughout the clip.
What her honest answer is, we may never know. However, we know ours would be a resounding “Yes!” if you were to ask us the same about Acra’s nouveau goth short film.
Was Acra’s film just as effective as a runway presentation? Let us know what you think in a comment.
And see which other designer opted for a video over a live show.

What’s a model with too much time on her hands to do?
Date a rock star? Been there, done that.
Hit up an all-you-can-eat buffet? Hahahahaha.
Start an online magazine? Bingo!
Sure enough, British supermodel Agyness Deyn is rumored to be launching an online lifestyle magazine with writer pal Fiona Byrne, French fashion blog Ykone reports.
And what will Deyn be calling the new mag? Naag — which combines the “na” from Fiona and the “ag” from Agyness, according to the blog.
(We’d like to take a brief moment and issue an apology to Gwyneth Paltrow. GOOP is no longer the dumbest name ever. Forgive us?)
The site will reportedly cover fashion, beauty and travel, as well as behind-the-scenes footage from photo shoots. (And, dare we dream, tips on scoring the perfect bowl cut?)
A quote credited to Byrne on Ykone says that (translated from French) the duo hopes to reach out to trend-setters in New York and London, as well as girls in Ohio who are interested in fashion.
Lucky us. Stay tuned for more details!

Jessica Stam has got her designs on Macy’s. Photo: J. Graylock, jpistudios.com
After countless trips down the catwalk, we suppose Jessica Stam knows a thing or two about clothing.
So it’s no surprise that the model is officially adding “designer” to her resume.
“Just finished my first design meeting with @Rachel_Roy. I’m doing a capsule collection with her for Macy’s. So much fun sketching designs!” the Canadian beauty divulged via her Twitter page.
Turns out Stam has a history of partnering with designers: She previously teamed up with Rag & Bone on a few pieces for the label’s Spring 2010 collection, but the collaboration was more about using Stam’s style and input as inspiration.
Now that Stam’s also sketching, could she turn full-fledged designer? We think having Rachel Roy at her side is a definite plus, and Roy’s wearable feminine designs, tempered by Stam’s casual style, could be just the perfect match.
But don’t think Stam’s giving up modeling anytime soon — the Nina Ricci campaign girl is itching to hit the catwalk. “I’m so jealous of all my girls in Milan,” she tweeted. Cannot wait to get to Paris to get back on the runway!!!”
Stam isn’t the only sketchy model — Coco Rocha is also working on a line set to debut this fall.

There are some childhood habits we just can’t shake.
A lingering crush on Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Wanting to be Jem when we grow up. And, of course, playing with paper dolls.
Especially when said paper dolls feature the likes of supermodels Jessica Stam, Erin Wasson, Gemma Ward and Jourdan Dunn. For real.
British artist Mel Simone Elliott has followed up her one-dimensional transformations of Agyness Deyn and Kate Moss with a new batch of model inspirations, each supplied with a chic selection of 10 off-the-runway (paper) ensembles.
Slip a cut-out body-conscious Preen mini dress on Erin, let Gemma rock Christopher Kane’s gorilla-print frock, jazz up Jessica with Giles‘ sunny yellow eye-adorned dress or have Jourdan flaunt her post-baby bod in Chanel.
It’s like having fashion week in your house, give or take a few paper cuts.
Each paper doll set costs £16 (about $25) and is available through ThingsWeLove.co.uk.
Now pass us the scissors.
In the meantime, check out these funky fashion voodoo dolls.
