Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron, is crowned Miss America 2010. Photo: Ethan Miller, Getty Images for Planet Hollywood
Here she is… Miss America 2010.
Miss Virginia, 22-year-old Caressa Cameron, walked away with the crown and a $50,000 Miss America scholarship tonight in Las Vegas wearing a bright yellow satin gown with embellished bodice and massive chandelier earrings.
Caressa Cameron wore her long dark hair in a loose, side swept coif, that distinguished her from several of the blonde finalists who also seemed to be sharing the same tube of red lipstick.
Talent and smarts (rather than style) seemed to be the main factors that helped this beauty edge out the competition, including first runner-up and fellow brunette, Miss California Kristy Cavinder.
Cavinder won a preliminary Lifestyle & Fitness segments, which us old-timers know as the swimsuit competition.
Caressa Cameron, who sang a stirring rendition of “Listen” from “Dreamgirls,” did an impressive Beyoncé imitation and won an early talent round in the competition. (Rather than giving a single talent prize, the competition now divides the contestants into groups and awards talent on successive nights).
Miss Virginia then went on to give a coherent and confident answer to a question submitted by a spectator on the Las Vegas Strip regarding ways to address childhood obesity:
“Take away the TV. Take away the video games. Go outside and play games like I did when I was a kid. Go see what the world is like,” she told host Mario Lopez.
Lopez was assisted in hosting duties by a dapper Clinton Kelly of TLC’s “What Not To Wear.”
Caressa Camero — who assumes the reign from newly engaged Miss America 2009 Katie Stam (formerly Miss Indiana) — began competing in pageants at the age of 14.
She has told interviewers that her interest in the pageant world stems from a desire to help raise HIV-AIDS prevention awareness after losing an uncle to the disease.
Her professional aspiration — no surprise here — is to be an anchor woman.

Working out is needed in order to live a healthy active lifestyle. When running on a treadmill or taking a jog along the beach, we must support our chest area. A women’s breasts are a part of the body which expresses full femininity. As we age, our breast tissue will stretch and lead to sagging and/or stretch marks. The older I get, the
more concerned I am about how my breasts look without my bra, or under my shirt (I consider myself one of the very few women in California with a pair of natural boobs). In order to prevent gravity from destroying our womanhood, we must use a supportive bra. Especially when engaging in leisure activity, high-impact aerobics or competitive sports, we must always remember to wear a sports bra. But what makes a good sports bra?

Have you evaluated your sports bra today? Protect your breasts from signs of aging, and wear a good sports bra. If planning on an active day, never leave home without one.

Nicole Richie rocks Versace on the cover of Marie Claire UK. Photo: Ben Watts
We have to say, being a brunette definitely suits Nicole Richie.
The svelte mother of two is Marie Claire UK’s March cover girl, showing off her long, dark rock ‘n’ roll locks and post-baby body in a fashion shoot by photographer Ben Watts (brother of actress Naomi Watts).
In the spread, the 28-year-old reformed bad girl dons a Versace skirt dripping with metal fringe, a fluffy ballerina-style dress by Giles Deacon and skinny grey Mardou & Dean jeans paired with a black leather jacket from her Winter Kate label, named after 2-year-old daughter (with rocker Joel Madden), Harlow Winter Kate Madden.
“Clothing was something I always wanted to do,” Richie tells the magazine. “I’ve been pulling tear sheets from magazines since I was a little girl.”
As for juggling two kids while trying to grow a fashion empire, which includes a jewelry line, the fashion brand House of Harlow 1960 and the soon-to-be-released Winter Kate clothing and footwear collections, Richie says it’s not a problem.
“I’m a Virgo and I’m really good at scheduling. So there are 24 hours in a day and I’m up at 6:30 am every day anyway,” she reveals, before explaining she doesn’t rely on a live-in nanny like most A-listers. “Not full-time, but I do have someone that helps me right now and, well, I have my mom, who’s here.”
Aside from fashion, Richie also discussed rumors that her super-slim frame is due to an eating disorder.
“I definitely felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t,” she says of the media coverage over the last few years. “It’s extremely insulting and irresponsible. An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease, and I don’t think you can lightly say that someone has a disease unless they’re openly telling you that they do.”
Mother of two? Could have fooled us. Richie wears an LNA tee, Mardou & Dean jeans and leather jacket from her new Winter Kate line. Photo: Ben Watts
“I have been very honest with my friends, my family and also with the public about the mistakes that I’ve made and the challenges that I’ve gone through,” she continued. “And I have said many times, ‘Listen, if I had an eating disorder, I would tell you and I would talk to you about it.’”
By way of explaining her tiny frame so soon after giving birth to son Sparrow James Midnight Madden last September, she offers: “I’m nursing and he’s a big boy, so…”
Richie also tells Marie Claire that she’s got more on her plate than just her fashion ventures, revealing she’s interested in launching a music career, writing another book (her 2006 book “The Truth About Diamonds” was a The New York Times bestseller), and starring as a young woman balancing work and home life in a television sitcom she’s developing for ABC.
“I think that ten years ago someone would probably have said I was crazy to want so many occupations,” she tells the magazine. “But artists like Beyoncé have paved the way, going from music to acting to designer, and I have a ton of respect for people like that.”
To hear more about Richie’s career plans and see more of her sultry Marie Claire shoot, head over to MarieClaire.co.uk and pick up the new March issue of the magazine on newsstands now.

Tim Gunn at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Photo: MyLifetime.com
Last week’s “Green Acres”-themed potato sack challenge had us worried “Project Runway” was detouring from its promised “all New York” season.
Fortunately, last night’s episode got its seams straight and took things back where they belong — the heart of the Big Apple, specifically, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s famed Costume Institute.
The Challenge: Designers are instructed to create a high-end signature look worthy of the Costume Institute, where they are trying to refrain from drooling on the Dior and Balenciaga pieces. “I’ve never been this close to Dior before,” gushes Seth Aaron Henderson, who has made it clear that he wants to be Christian Dior. Seriously.
The Twist: It takes two, babe. Some of the alpha contestants are called out from the pack and instructed to choose a partner to collaborate with on their design. The queen fights begin!
Breaking News: The contestants are given $500 to complete their looks — the most money allotted for a challenge in “Project Runway” history, according to design mentor Tim Gunn. This sure makes shopping at Mood Fabrics way more fun.
Let’s Twist Again: We thought Gunn was bringing a surprise guest to the workroom, but he just showed up to complicate matters. Big time. The designers are given a second challenge. Gunn instructs them to make a mass market look for a fashionable customer who desires a look for less.
Plus, they must base their bargain look on one of the competing teams’ works-in-progress The look also must be completed at a fraction of their original budget. Did you get all that? We needed to take notes. As for the measly budget? As Henderson explains, “That means napkins, paper towels and hot glue.”
The Workroom Entertainment: Gunn tries hard not to laugh at the spaced-out antics of Ping Wu, and we’re intrigued as Anthony Williams chooses the Dior-worshiping Henderson as his partner. Team leader Williams picks mustard, black and red fabrics for his looks. He proclaims, “So at this point, I think we are designing a gown for the vice president of McDonald’s.”
We are so worried. What if the judges don’t like fast food?
The Guest Judge: It’s British designer Matthew Williamson. He delivers a thoughtful, but low-key assessment of the designers’ pieces.
The Runway Show: A high-end, low-end mess. Who made what? Ballgowns reign supreme as the designers try their hand at haute couture with inexpensive knock-offs brought out for a second pass. For us, it didn’t really work.
Best Line by a Judge: Michael Kors delivers the quip of the week again. On Williams’ McDonald’s couture: “It looks like the Southern cotillion party from hell.” Ouch.
Who’s In: We have some official front runners. Designers Jay Nicolas Sario and Mila Hermanovski make it to the top two, along with their partners, for the second week in a row. Hermanovski wins for an interesting collection of separates that especially wows Kors.
Separates, Kors declares, “is really how we dress.” And as we get to see Hermanovski up close, her calculating, competitive spirit reminds us of Season 6 winner Irina Shabayeva. Too early to say for sure, but she may be getting the bitch edit as well.
Who’s Out: Tissues please. It’s Wu, the lovable crybaby. (She was so fun to have around.) Yet, her bizarre method of not fitting her models and draping fabric every which way finally gets the best of her. Her runway model even complained to the judges about her fit methods. A tearful Wu is sent off to pack where she pleads with her fellow contestants to remember a “Happy Ping, not a crying Ping.”
What’s Got Us Worried: Williams lands in the bottom two, the same place he was in week one.The judges are questioning his taste level and we can see why. He may be producing some of the best one-liners in the history of the show, but now it’s time to focus on the hemlines.

Lady Gaga working the hair factor. Photo: Steven Lawton/FilmMagic.com
Poor, poor Paula Abdul.
First, the singer/dancer gets bounced from “American Idol.” Now her anticipated spot as a judge on Simon Cowell’s upcoming U.S. version of “The X Factor” could go to Lady Gaga, instead.
Cowell was reportedly bitten by the Gaga bug after the outlandish — and oh-so-stylish — performer sang her hit, “Bad Romance,” in a bathtub on a U.K. episode of the talent show, according to The Sun.
“Simon thinks Lady Gaga is great and really likes her energy,” an unnamed source told the paper. “Conversations have been happening between Cowell’s U.S. team and her people about what kind of role she could have on the show.”
Insiders, The Sun reports, say the 23-year-old singer has been asked to look at her schedule to see whether her tour dates would allow her to commit to weekly filming.
Cowell announced earlier this month that he’ll be leaving his mega-hit “Idol” to launch “The X Factor” stateside. Other names being batted around to serve as judges include Abdul, Beyoncé, Megan Fox, Kelly Rowland, Mel B and Cheryl Cole.
Gaga, for what it’s worth, is a big fan of Susan Boyle, who found fame on Cowell’s U.K. show “Britain’s Got Talent.”
“I love Susan Boyle,” Gaga tells the source. “Our styles are different. I don’t know if we could work together, but never say never. It would be great to work with somebody of that talent.”
If a Gaga-Boyle duet doesn’t bring in an “The X Factor” ratings bonanza, we don’t know what will. We can only imagine what the costumes would be like.
Meanwhile, over at “American Idol,” could Victoria Beckham be this season’s stylist?

Original Stormy Kromer Cap, $29.95. Photo: Stormykromer.com
When news broke of J.D. Salinger’s death, another name was invariably paired with the author’s: Holden Caulfield.
Caulfield, the narrator of Salinger’s novel “The Catcher in the Rye,” is such a vivid character that you can practically hear, smell and touch him. Of all his hallmarks, the red hunting cap is the one that launched a million fumbling teenage imitations.
Caulfield’s hat is the classic mid-century kind: red, peaked and ear-flapped, probably similar to a Stormy Kromer. Caulfield twists it around so that the peak is in the back, a way he calls “very corny” but likes nonetheless.
He wears it off and on through his New York City wanderings, at one point drunkenly giving it to his little sister Phoebe. Pride and shame, independence and loneliness, the fantasy of running away to Vermont — they’re all bound up in that hat.
How many of us read that novel and then had to find our hat equivalent? The thing that would mark us as unique and profound, not a phony or a loser. How often did we try on a cap, a coat, loafers or moccasins, looking for a signature style that hinted at Holden?
You knew that if you met Caulfield, he would size you up and some detail would have an impact. He’s a guy who wants to marry a girl just because she’s wearing a black beret. His heart nearly breaks when he sees his “roller-skate skinny” sister in elephant-embroidered pajamas.
Even luggage is ripe for interpretation. Caulfield riffs on how uncomfortable he gets when someone has cheap suitcases. He hauls around two Gladstones and reminisces about his Mark Cross bag. (And boy, it’s a real shame that Mark Cross is out of business now.)
To generations of Salinger’s readers, a hat was never just a hat. If you had a Holden-esque accessory, share it in our comments!

Just image these Jimmy Choo straps as shoelaces. Photo:Jimmychoo.com
Despite the fact that Jimmy Choo himself wears heels, his namesake company, now owned by Tamara Mellon, is launching, of all things, sneakers!
Jimmy Choo’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection includes eight sneakers, including funky-chic high and low-tops in snakeskin and suede, reports Elle UK.
This news comes hot on the (high) heels of a newly announced collaboration with UGG and partnerships with H&M and Hunter, proving yet again that Jimmy Choo’s identity as solely an aspirational stiletto designer is rapidly evolving.
We can only imagine what Mr. Choo, who started out in the business as Princess Diana’s cobbler and is now designing a Jimmy Choo Couture collection, thinks about the departure from his signature style.
Meanwhile, Tamara Mellon is keeping Jimmy Choo alive and kicking, check out her new Choo 24/7 line.
