Normally, we make it a rule to steer clear of fashion advice provided by anyone associated with “Dancing with the Stars,” but darn it if we didn’t learn a thing or two from former contestant Marissa Jaret Winokur’s interview with our sister site Lemondrop.
For Winokur, who now hosts Oxygen’s “Dance Your Ass Off,” great fashion is all about the shape, not the sequins.
“You can’t go by size,” Winokur told Lemondrop. “You have to try everything on.”
One tip that took us by surprise: Black garments are tighter.
“The scary thing in those kind of cheaper stores (which are great) is that you have to try every color [of the same item] on because the black is gonna fit tighter because it has more dye in it,” Winokur explained to the site.
“But then, if you get the beige or the gray it could fit bigger. Every color cuts differently. That’s why black jeans are always tighter. You always have to try jeans on.”

Paris Jackson leaves the Amp Salon in Las Vegas. Photo: Flynetpictures
Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris got a haircut and some pampering at the Amp Salon at the Palms in Las Vegas.
But according to the Daily Mail, she also got some unusual treatment: All of Paris’ snipped-off hair was swept up into a bag for her to take home.
Many believe this was an attempt to avoid any DNA testing, since the paternity of Michael Jackson’s children is under public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, back at the Amp Salon, mum’s the word, as no staffers were able to comment.
What do you think?
Are Paris’ handlers and family just trying to protect her privacy? Or do they have something to hide? Leave a comment below.

Naomi Campbell is spitting mad once again, but this time she’s taking her anger out on the fashion industry, which she says has turned its back on black models as a result of the recession, reports The Telegraph.
“This year, we have gone back all the way that we had advanced,” Campbell told the paper. “I don’t see any black woman, or of any other race, in big advertising campaigns.”
Of last year’s Vogue Italia issue featuring all-black models, the source quotes the supermodel as saying, “That made some noise, but, unfortunately, we are the same as before. People, in the panic of the recession, don’t dare to put a girl of color in their campaign, full stop. Nor of any other race. It’s a shame. It’s very sad.”

Hearst’s new site for personalized beauty content launches in beta in early September. Photos: Courtesy of RealBeauty.com
Beauty is about to get personal.
Today, Hearst announced their new beauty site, RealBeauty.com, which will launch in beta in early September and officially in November.
The site will be a mixture of beauty-related content from Hearst properties like Cosmopolitan, Bazaar and Marie Claire and other sources, including non-Hearst magazines and books that concentrate on specific areas of expertise. “To expand our ethnic beauty coverage, we have formed content partnerships with Hype Hair and Latina magazines, and will pursue other similar partnerships to make sure we can offer full-service beauty content,” founding editor Nicole Stagg told StyleList via email.
But the real star of the site will be “The Beauty Book,” a personalization tool that provides consumers with customized beauty and wellness information and product suggestions. The recommendations will be based on information they provide RealBeauty.com, such as their age, ethnicity, hair color and beauty interests. Consumers will then be able to port their Beauty Book across the Hearst Network to sites like Cosmopolitan.com, Redbookmag.com and social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.

Saks won’t be offering sales this season. Photo: Brian Ach, Getty Images for IMG
No more sales at Saks Fifth Avenue? Say it isn’t so! According to the New York Post, recessionistas will now have to do their bargain shopping elsewhere.
During a time when other luxury retailers are offering ridiculous discounts and major shopping incentives, Saks CEO Steve Sadove is trying to talk designers into a full-price state of mind, reports the paper.
After last year’s dismal holiday season, where prices were slashed up to 80 percent, Saks is now hoping its customers will start to seek them out for quality over quantity.
In an effort to spread their anti-sale gospel, the top execs at Saks are putting pressure on designers to reconsider discounting their merchandise. Some brands are already beginning an exodus from Bloomingdale’s because of disputes over clearance events, according to the source.
As reported by the NY Post, Sadove told analysts this month: “If you want to get it in your size, you’re going to have to buy it.”
Bummer for those of us who are used to buying it — just not at full price! Looks like we’ll have to head to Bloomingdale’s or Neiman Marcus, where the markdown madness continues.

The lingerie magnate’s uber-successful Elle Macpherson Intimates brand is launching a a luxury line called Obsidian.
Set to hit retail for Spring 2010, the upscale lingerie collection sources fabrics from France, Italy and Japan and is less feminine and frilly than it is sexy and seductive.
And as the brand’s first collection designed for both women and men, it looks like the model-designer succeeded: Macpherson wanted the line to be “raw and sexy with a sophisticated edge.”
